JOB PURPOSE
- The Warehouse Picker is responsible for accurately picking, checking, handling, and preparing FMCG products for dispatch in accordance with customer orders, stock requirements, and company procedures. The role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, product care, and adherence to health, safety, hygiene, and quality standards to ensure that the right products and quantities are delivered on time and in good condition.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pick products accurately from designated warehouse locations using picking lists, scanners, or warehouse management systems.
- Verify product descriptions, SKU numbers, batch/lot numbers, quantities, and expiry dates where applicable.
- Ensure products are picked according to FIFO/FEFO principles and company stock-rotation procedures.
- Handle cosmetics, personal-care products, and other FMCG products carefully to prevent damage, leakage, contamination, or deterioration.
- Check picked items against the relevant order or picking document before moving them to the dispatch/staging area.
- Pack and arrange products appropriately for transportation while maintaining product presentation and integrity.
- Report damaged, leaking, expired, short-dated, or incorrectly labelled products to the Warehouse Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate stock movements and promptly report any discrepancies identified during picking.
- Keep warehouse aisles, picking locations, and workstations clean, organised, and free from hazards.
- Follow company requirements relating to personal hygiene, product handling, health and safety, and housekeeping.
- Observe all warehouse security procedures and help prevent stock loss, damage, and unauthorised movement of products.
- Assist with stock counts, cycle counts, stocktaking, and warehouse inventory checks when required.
- Support loading, offloading, replenishment, put-away, and other warehouse activities as assigned.
- Use warehouse equipment safely and responsibly, in accordance with training and company procedures.
- Meet agreed productivity and accuracy targets while maintaining required quality standards.
- Immediately report safety incidents, product-quality concerns, equipment faults, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
- Work effectively with warehouse, quality, production, distribution, and logistics teams to support smooth order fulfilment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum KCSE or equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, distribution centre, FMCG, cosmetics, manufacturing, or retail environment is an advantage.
- Experience using picking lists, barcode scanners, handheld terminals, or warehouse management systems is desirable.
- Basic understanding of stock control and inventory procedures.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret product codes, quantities, labels, and picking documents.
- Previous experience handling fast-moving consumer goods or personal-care products is an added advantage.
