Underwriting Intern

Job Purpose:

To provide supervised operational and administrative support to the underwriting team by assisting with the review of proposal forms, verification of client documentation, data capture, policy documentation, and routine follow-up activities while gaining practical exposure to underwriting processes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in reviewing proposal forms and client documentation for completeness, accuracy, KYC requirements, and adherence to underwriting guidelines before escalation to senior underwriters.
• Support data capture, booking of approved retail policies, and issuance of motor certificates in line with approved procedures and supervision.
• Verify and organize underwriting records, including proposal forms, policy schedules, endorsements, valuation reports, and related documents in the document management system.
• Prepare routine policy documents, endorsements, renewal notices, and customer correspondence for review and approval by the supervising underwriter.
• Assist in tracking referred risks, pending renewals, endorsements, and outstanding requirements to support timely turnaround and service delivery..
• Respond to routine customer, branch, and intermediary queries under guidance, escalating technical or complex matters to senior underwriters.
• Support preparation and dispatch of debit notes, credit notes, and related communication in line with credit control procedures.
• Compile basic underwriting data and reports to assist senior underwriters in risk review, workflow monitoring, and automation process improvement activities.
• Observe delegated authority limits and ensure all underwriting decisions, approvals, and exceptions are referred to the appropriate authorized officers.
• Perform any other learning and operational support duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the internship role.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required

• Bachelor’s degree (insurance option preferred)
• No experience required but foundational knowledge of insurance processes and procedures will be an added advantage
• Computer literate

• Sales and marketing management skills
• Diplomatic in handling client relationship
