Operations Intern, Energy Network

The Role

• Zeno is looking for an Operations Intern to keep the commercial and administrative backbone of our battery swap and fast-charging network running cleanly. Every site we operate sits on a lease with a landlord and a meter with Kenya Power. That means rent to invoice and pay, utility accounts to keep current, tariffs to verify, renewal dates to catch before they pass, and signed agreements to collect and file where the team can actually find them. This role owns that work.
• Working closely with the Development and Operations teams, you'll be the person who knows the status of every lease, every landlord relationship, and every utility payment across the network — and who makes sure nothing is late, missing, or wrong.
• This job is the kind of work that quietly determines whether a network of this size holds together, and it is one of the best ways to learn how energy infrastructure operations really work. For someone meticulous who wants a way into a fast-scaling company, it is a strong entry point — this internship is designed with a step up to a full-time role in mind.

What You'll Do

• Own the accuracy of our contract management system. Keep records complete and consistent, apply the same naming and data standards to every entry, and make sure the system reflects reality rather than what was true three months ago
• Run critical-date management: track renewal dates, notice periods, rent escalations, and expiry dates across the portfolio, and give the team early warning well before anything falls due
• Manage the agreement lifecycle end to end on the admin side. Collect executed leases and site host agreements, chase down missing or unsigned documents, and file everything so that any contract can be found in seconds
• Track and execute recurring lease obligations: monthly rent invoices, quarterly and annual escalations, one-off payments, insurance certificates. Make sure each one is raised, paid, and recorded on time
• Manage utility payments across the network: keep KPLC accounts current, verify that the correct tariff and rate have been applied to each site, reconcile bills against expected consumption, and flag overcharges or anomalies for follow-up
• Act as the day-to-day point of contact for landlords and site partners on routine matters (rent invoices, energy payments, renewal paperwork, and documentation requests) escalating disputes and commercial questions to the Operations team
• Produce and present regular executive status reporting for leadership on operational compliance
• Draft and maintain the SOPs, templates, checklists, and trackers behind all of the above, so the process survives handover and does not live in one person's head
• Drive operational excellence: spot the steps that are repetitive or error-prone, propose simple automations or process fixes, and work with internal teams to put them in place

What You'll Bring

• Extremely organized, able to keep many documents, deadlines, and payment cycles in order without letting anything slip through the cracks
• Exceptional attention to detail: you catch the wrong tariff, the mismatched invoice amount, the lease with no countersignature
• Comfortable with repetitive, detail-heavy administrative work, and able to stay accurate and patient on the hundredth record as much as the first
• Process-focused and methodical: you like a clear procedure, follow it consistently, and improve it as you go
• Numerate and confident checking invoices, rates, and payment calculations
• Professional and discreet with confidential contract, landlord, and financial information
• Comfortable with spreadsheets and basic tracking tools (Excel or Google Sheets); exposure to tools like Jira is a plus
• Clear written and verbal communication in English and Swahili
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in any field — business, finance, real estate, or law backgrounds are a plus, but no prior work experience is required
