Credit Controller

Job Description

• Our client, a leading company in Kenya operating in the retail concepts, interior solutions, shopfitting and equipment industry, is seeking to hire a Credit Controller. Reporting to the Head of Finance, with a dotted line to the Managing Director, the Credit Controller will take ownership of the company’s order-to-cash cycle and play a key role in protecting working capital and maintaining a healthy cash-flow position.
• He/she will oversee customer billing, credit control, collections, customer reconciliations and credit risk management, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing against project milestones and deliveries. The Credit Controller will also ensure compliance with Kenyan tax requirements relating to sales, maintain accurate receivables records and identify and address collection risks. In addition, the role will deputize for the Head of Finance when required, supporting month-end close, management reporting, cash-flow management, statutory compliance and the supervision of junior finance staff. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, commercially aware, disciplined and analytical, with strong attention to detail, sound credit management skills and the ability to maintain continuity across the wider finance function.

Job Responsibilities

• Manage the order-to-cash cycle, including invoicing, collections and customer reconciliations.
• Drive credit control and debt recovery, monitoring ageing and ensuring collection targets are achieved.
• Assess customer credit risk, recommend credit limits and monitor customer exposure.
• Manage retentions, contract variations, advance payments and guarantees.
• Ensure compliance with VAT, eTIMS, withholding tax and other sales-related tax requirements.
• Prepare debtors’ reports, collection forecasts and receivables analysis to support cash-flow management.
• Deputize for the Head of Finance, supporting month-end close, management reporting, budgeting, cash flow and statutory compliance.
• Supervise junior finance staff and support internal controls, audits and process improvements.

Other Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
• CPA(K) or ACCA qualification.
• 5–7 years’ experience in credit control/accounts receivable, including senior or supervisory experience.
• Good knowledge of Kenyan tax compliance, eTIMS and iTax.
• Experience with an ERP/accounting system and strong Excel skills.
• Knowledge of IFRS 15 and IFRS 9.
• Experience in construction, fit-out, contracting, manufacturing or other project-based environments is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, communication, negotiation and leadership skills, with high attention to detail and commercial awareness.
