Job description & requirements
Job Purpose:
- To provide effective financial reporting, review and oversight for Britam Asset Managers, its related entities, SPVs, Unit Trust Funds and Alternatives, ensuring accurate and timely financial information, robust reconciliations, regulatory compliance, effective financial controls and decision-support reporting for management, EXCO and the Board.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and oversee preparation of financial reports for BAM Kenya, Uganda, SPVs, Unit Trust Funds and Alternatives.
- Review BAM Kenya monthly and annual financial statements, management accounts, trial balances and supporting schedules.
- Prepare Board Packs, EXCO Packs, Finance Leaders Reports and Operations Reconciliation Reports.
- Review financial performance, variances, key movements, risks and management commentary for decision making.
- Review and challenge bank, intercompany, receivables, payables, investment, tax, fixed asset and other balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review and approve journals, month-end adjustments, accruals, prepayments, commissions, payroll and investment income entries.
- Review CMA regulatory reports and supporting financial information and ensure timely and accurate submissions.
- Review Risk-Based Capital Adequacy (RBCA) reports and supporting schedules for completeness and accuracy.
- Conduct tax reviews covering VAT, withholding tax and other applicable tax computations, reconciliations, returns and payments.
- Review and approve payment requisitions, payment vouchers, fund transfer instructions and other disbursements in line with delegated authority.
- Review the financial statements and reporting packs for all SPVs, ensuring completeness, accuracy and compliance with Group requirements.
- Coordinate internal and external audit processes, including review of audit schedules, responses to audit queries and follow-up of agreed actions.
- Review operational and financial reconciliation reports, identify root causes of variances and monitor resolution of outstanding items.
- Supervise, coach and review work performed by finance team members and ensure timely delivery of reporting and control activities.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial analysis as required.
- Review systems-generated reports, UAT outputs and reporting developments to safeguard data integrity and reporting accuracy.
- Drive continuous improvement of finance processes, controls, reconciliations and management reporting.
- Perform any other duties as required.
Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications required and Essential Competencies - External
- Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting/Finance) or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in business related field is an added advantage.
- Professional accounting qualification such as CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent; membership of ICPAK or relevant professional body.
- Relevant experience in a busy finance, investment management, insurance or financial services environment.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting, reconciliations, regulatory reporting, taxation and financial controls.
- Strong analytical, report writing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
